- "Gunny" is a common nickname for United States Marines holding the rank of Gunnery Sergeant.
- Paladin Gunny was one of BoS members that traveled with Elder Lyons when he first headed east to the Capital Wasteland.
Bugs
- Sometimes,after completing the game when talking to him, the subtitles will say, "Nothing to report here," but he will say, "We've got this area locked down." This can also happen to unamed Brotherhood of Steel members.
- Sometimes Gunny will appear without power armor, wearing a Merc Charmer outfit instead.

The line he says about relax your muscles when you receive Power Armor Training is a reference to the novel Starship Troopers by Robert A. Heinlein. The narrator uses the same line to describe how soldiers in the Mobile Infantry are trained to wear power armor.
